This comprehensive course is focused on Organ Performance and Service Playing, providing the essential skills needed to excel as a church organist and prepare for the American Guild of Organists Service Playing Certification. During the semester, each student will be required to learn Baroque, Romantic and contemporary pieces that they have not performed before. Depending on availability, some classes will be conducted off-campus to facilitate exploration of these works on different instruments. In addition, students will develop skills in hymn playing, repertoire performance, sight-reading, transposition, choral accompaniment, improvisation, and hymn reharmonization.
